Lewis Timberlake tells in his book, First Thing Every Morning, a story about a man who lost his clothing business to bankruptcy in 1922 when he was 38 years old. He told his wife, “I can’t die like this. I know I was born to do something more.” They wrote a goal for his life. This same man, Harry S. Truman, became president of the United States in 1945, 23 years later. Reportedly, he read his favorite scripture every morning. It is one of my favorites as well: “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for your good, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11.
What a promise! I choose not to settle for a mundane, insignificant life. I want to follow God into the life He has planned for me so that I can enjoy richness and fulfillment. You may be thinking that those things only happen to those people and would never happen to you. You may not want to become the President of the United States, but why not dream big? If we only dream as big as a better job and a bigger church, then that is all we will get. Why not go ahead and expect our fantastic dream job or business and a vibrant, Spirit filled church that is reaching people for Christ and helping to change lives of hundreds a year? We are limited only by what we believe. Dream big for your 2012!
