Dr. Lee Colan’s second question to help us out of our comfort zone is, “Can I dip my toe in first?” There may be times when it is best just to take the leap of faith and go for it. However, it is often better to test the waters and take one small step at a time. I believe that when we do that, we become more comfortable with each step we take. Any time we try something new, we feel uncertain or even afraid, but each time it becomes easier until eventually we are completely at ease. Personally, I find that very gratifying. Occasionally I will be doing something and recall how in the past just the thought of it would have caused extreme anxiety. That feeling of growth and satisfaction is amazing!

Of course, when we get to the point of comfort, it is time to move on and try something else new that will take us further out of our comfort zone. I heard a caller say on the radio just this morning that we are like a rubber band; we serve no real purpose until we are stretched. I want to continue to stretch and grow.
