The greatest reason for remaining in our comfort zone is fear. It may be the fear of failure or even the fear of success. We fear the unknown when in fact, after we go ahead and take the first step, we discover that it isn’t so bad after all. The fear itself is much worse than the situation we feared!

Dr. Lee Colan’s third question to help us out of our comfort zone is “How bad can it be?” He quotes Thomas Edison in his article, “Genius? Nothing! Sticking to it is the genius. I’ve failed my way to success.” If we will really ask ourselves this question and consider the worst case scenario, we will find that (1) it wouldn’t be the end of the world if it happened, and (2) it probably won’t happen anyway.

Don’t let fear keep you stuck in the rut of your comfort zone.
