This week I read a short excerpt about fear in First Thing Every Morning by Lewis Timberlake. He suggests that psychologists say fear is “holding mental pictures of what I don’t want to happen.” He included a quote by Mark Twain, “I’m an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened.”

Why do some of us tend to focus on the negative rather than the positive? Knowing that we usually get what we think about, why do we allow ourselves to dwell on the bad that could happen? It is up to us to decide what we fill our minds with. If we don’t put forth the effort to keep positives available, such as scripture, uplifting music, good books . . . , then negatives will consume our thoughts, and thus, our actions.

I choose to expect the best and be on the lookout for it every day. Mr. Timberlake states in this article, “Winners are never surprised to win because they expect to win!”

What are you expecting today?
