I listened to Dave Ramsey’s EntreLeadership podcast this week during which he interviewed Jon Acuff regarding his new book, Start. This was a great interview with reminders not to let anything prevent us from reaching for our dreams. One of the primary hindrances is fear.
He said “enough” is a major detriment to action. We tend to think we are not young enough or not old enough, we don’t have enough money or enough time. He said “fear only gets loud when you do things that matter.” He told of a 70 year old woman at one of his conferences recently who told him she didn’t want to give in to ”recliner rot” even though most of her friends were content with that. She wanted more.
Jon recommends three things to do when faced with fear:
1. “Write it down.” It seems to lose its strength when it is written down.
2. “Refute it with the truth.”
3. “Share it.” We need help to refute it so it is necessary to share it.
Eleanor Roosevelt said, “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I lived through this horror, I can take the next thing that comes along.’ You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”
Let me encourage you to Start now to begin living your life to the fullest . . .
