There are not words to fully describe experiencing the Grand Canyon. And yes, it is an experience, not just a site. I have seen many pictures of it, and even now when I look at the pictures I made there myself, they don’t begin to do it justice. It must be experienced personally.
Our day began with a gunfight at the amphitheater and then on to the train ride on the Grand Canyon Railway from Williams. We enjoyed the music of a banjo player on the way. We had a bus tour of the canyon which included several stops to view it from different points. Most of them had a wall or rail along the edge for safety, but there were places where we were standing very near the edge with nothing between us and the canyon.
Standing at the edge looking at this breathtaking view was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. It just screamed the awesomeness of our Almighty God! The beauty was beyond anything I could have imagined and yet my own Heavenly Father not only imagined it, but created it!
The entertainment on the train ride back to Williams was by a Native American man who played guitar and sang. He did a variety of music, but the most memorable song was one he did in his native language. He introduced it as a tribute to the experience we just had of the Grand Canyon. The song – How Great Thou Art.
Amen.
