Pastor Jones is doing a series of sermons on Excellence, which I am enjoying tremendously. In a recent sermon, he told a story from Genesis Chapters 11 and 12 regarding a man named Terah who chose to stay in a place called Haran when Abraham left for Canaan. Terah’s choice to remain rather than move forward caused him to miss seeing the promised land of Canaan.

Our lives are all about the choices we make. We can become complacent where we are, or strive for excellence and put forth the effort to achieve it. Excellence is not achieved by asking for it and then sitting and waiting for it to come to us. No, it takes work, commitment and perseverance.

Pastor Jones pointed out that Abraham went to Haran, but he didn’t remain. He was open to change and obedience. As the Pastor stated, his tent pegs were loose. We must be willing to change if we want to grow and become all that we can be.

How about you? Are you stable and grounded where you are, or are you looking for greater opportunities? Are you determined to stay where you are, or are your tent pegs loose?

Keeping our options open and our tent pegs loose will help us to live . . . life to the fullest.
