The past two Sundays Pastor Jones has talked about interruptions to life. This subject has been quite timely for me. All of us in this area have dealt with interruption to our lives due to weather issues, especially a couple of weeks ago. My office was closed for two and a half days due to snow and extremely difficult road conditions. In addition, I was sick during that same period of time. However, I was able to see the silver lining in the situation and decided to be thankful for a couple of “free” sick days. I could just sit at home and be sick without concern about work. The extra rest helped me to recover more quickly.
More interruptions came the following week when my Mother was taken to the emergency room by ambulance last Tuesday. After a couple days in the hospital, she received a diagnosis that was difficult to hear. We took her home with the need for additional care. Thankfully, she is doing some better now.
This week brought additional weather concerns with a late arrival time to work one day and an early exit today. Fortunately, this interruption was planned before the snow and ice arrived, so there should be little difficulty.
While not all interruptions are bad, they do require adjustment and change. I read a quote recently by Louisa May Alcott, “I’m not afraid of storms, for I’m learning how to sail my ship.” We know that our perspective and attitude is key to everything in life. So, whether your recent interruptions have been storms or just changes, choose to see the silver lining in each and to learn from what life brings. This will help you to live . . . life to the fullest.
