Doesn’t sound very exciting, does it? The quote by Elbert Hubbard, “Do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not,” has kept me moving in the right direction many times. That IS exciting!
Some of the things we know are in our best interest to do are often the most difficult for which to find motivation. That can be anything from exercising so we can maintain our health and fitness, to taking out the trash. We want to experience the benefits of exercise – feeling good physically and emotionally. We also prefer not to experience the negative outcome of not taking out the trash – unpleasant odor or breaking the trash can drawer trying to cram just a little more into that bag.
So how do we ensure that we do these necessary things? One thing I find helpful is to keep my eye on the prize. Looking past the actual task and focusing on the benefit is always encouraging. Putting forth the effort to incrementally make these things into habits is one of the best ways. Habits automatically get done, often without mindful awareness.
However you choose to make it happen, just be sure to do what you should do so you can always live! . . . your life to the fullest!
