I recently read this anonymous quotation, “These are the good old days we shall all be longing for a few years from now.”

How does this statement make you feel?  Does it make you immediately feel negative and hopeless because life is only going to get worse?  Maybe it causes you to look back at your past and long for what used to be.  Or, it could bring to mind that you need to get busy enjoying what is happening in your life right now because this is the best you’re going to get.

The first thought that came to my mind when I read this quotation is the importance of living in the moment and enjoying what is.  Instead of wishing for what we used to have or longing for what is to come, why not just enjoy the moment?!

I often catch myself saying, “I’ll be happy when . . .”  I am trying to remove that phrase from my vocabulary.  I don’t want to wait until something different happens or until I achieve a particular goal.  I want to be happy now!  And I want to be happy tomorrow and the next day and the next.

Now, I am not proposing that every minute of life is going to be ecstatically happy.  I am, however, encouraging you not to wait for every little thing to be just perfect before you enjoy life.  There is always some good to be found if you just look for it.

Find the good and celebrate it.  Then you can live . . . your life to the fullest!
