What causes you to get out of bed in the morning? What is your greatest desire in life? What do you want more than anything else? Is it wealth, fame, power? Is that what will make you feel successful?
If wealth, fame or power is what you are seeking, then you may want to rethink your goals. Oliver Wendell Holmes stated, “Fame usually comes to those who are thinking about something else.”
Instead of setting goals to reach a status of fame or power, why not strive for what is truly meaningful to your life? Being well known and possessing the power to control others rarely brings personal satisfaction. In fact, it is usually the person who is seeking to help someone else who finds recognition from others.
Think of someone famous who you admire. I really enjoy following Dave Ramsey and how he shares his system for becoming financially free. His strategies literally change lives – including mine! He did not set out to become famous. It was actually his own financial downfall that caused him to seek out the strategies. When he realized how his life had changed, he began seeking to help others by sharing what he had learned.
I would say that Dave Ramsey has wealth, fame and power in the financial world. But I truly don’t believe that is what motivated him. Nor is it what is fulfilling in his life.
So, what are you seeking? Go for meaningful fulfillment. That is when you can live . . . your life to the fullest.
