You know what they say about doing the same old thing and expecting a different result. It just doesn’t work that way. In fact, it is advantageous to break out of conventional methods and make changes. Take the game of football, for instance . . .
I am not a sports enthusiast, but I recently read a story that evidences the advantage of trying new methods. Football strategy changed in 1906. Before the change, it was a game of kicking and running that typically had low scores. When the forward pass was legalized, it became possible to gain 40 yards with one throw. Interestingly, most teams continued using the same strategy as before during the next season.
One team, however, implemented the new option. St. Louis University started using the forward pass extensively. The result – they outscored their opponents 402 – 11 that first season!
