Ambition is a positive trait.  Going after what you really want is very important to success.

However, investing everything you have in that pursuit can actually backfire.  For instance, the person whose primary goal in life is to achieve a certain position or title in the business world will most likely devote extra time to the workplace.  As we all know, time is limited.  Spending more time at work results in less time to be with family. Therefore, relationships and home life may suffer.

You may want the bigger house and the nicer car.  These things are fine and are good goals, within reason.  Choosing to achieve these goals at a slower pace while maintaining relationships may be a better plan.  You may even decide that the time with family in the smaller home which allows for more funds for vacations is what you prefer.

Be sure to examine what you value most and then plan your life around those values.  Recognize what you have before going after more.

Living according to your values is when you can live . . . your life to the fullest.
