You have a desired destination in life. You lay out clearly-defined goals. You follow the plan. You reach your destination. Right?
It sounds good, but the truth is that the road to success is primarily via detours.
Does that mean we needn’t bother with goals and a plan? Absolutely not! Goals and planning are what point us in the direction we want to go.
As we begin that journey and experience what comes along, we change and grow. For instance, our intention may be to become an accountant, but after taking a few classes we realize that is not what we want to do. A detour to a major in Human Resources sets us up for success.
As we experience life, we learn more about ourselves. We become more confident in our decisions and therefore step out and take risks.
Detours may not be the simplest, straightest route, but they teach us a lot along the way. Cherish the journey. That is when you can live . . . your life to the fullest.
