Are you happy? If not, why not? I would like to share three things that are essential to happiness.
First, is having something to do. Many of us dream of the day when we can retire and do whatever we want whenever we want. That sounds nice, but it does not bring long-term happiness. After a while of not having structure and purpose, one begins to feel useless and unnecessary.
The second essential is having something to love. Passion for something that is important to you is what brings meaning to life. Whether it is the work you enjoy, a charitable cause, a volunteer project or a rescue mission. Being a part of something bigger than yourself is what counts.
Thirdly, having something to hope for is essential to happiness. It may be a goal you are working toward, a vacation to look forward to, or a milestone to achieve. Where there is hope, there is life.
If you discover that you are not in a happy place, take time to assess your situation. Do you have something to do, something to love and something to hope for? If the answer is no, then make the effort to find them. That is when you will be able to live . . . your life to the fullest.
