I don’t know what you do when things look bleak in your life, but what Charles and his wife did may amaze you.

Charles was out of a job, broke and his wife was expecting a baby.  He could not find a job even though he was experienced as a heating engineer.  They were barely getting by on the odd jobs he could find.

This couple did not let their situation get them down.  Instead, they kept positive and even laughed it off.  They made up a game to take their minds off their troubles in the evening.  This game allowed them to pretend they were millionaires.  They had enjoyed vacations in Atlantic City, so they reconstructed the area near the boardwalk.  Charles even carved houses and hotels out of wood to use as game pieces.  They called the game Monopoly.

In 1935, three years after this creation, the game was marketed nationally by Parker Brothers.  Charles Darrow and his wife truly became millionaires.

The moral to this story?  Even when life looks sad, keep positive, be grateful for what you have, maintain a sense of humor, do the best you can and be creative.  That is when you will be able to live . . . your life to the fullest.
