I know of people who desire to work in a certain field but just haven’t found a position that fills their need.  Hopefully this story about Lisa’s experience will encourage you.

Lisa went to New York City as a new college graduate looking for a job in publishing.  Since no jobs were available and she needed income, she took a job as a waitress in a coffee shop.

She chose to do her best, even though waiting tables was not what she wanted to do.  She greeted her customers cheerfully and acted professionally as she carried out her duties.  Months later a regular customer told her that he expected she was not a waitress all the time and asked her what else she did.  She responded that she wanted to be an editor.  She worked evenings in the coffee shop and went on job interviews during the day.

It turns out that this man was a prominent literary agent who needed a bright, young assistant.  He arranged an interview and she was hired.  She was on her way to her dream job!

If Lisa had chosen to feel down about her situation and drug herself into work every day, she would not have attracted an opportunity.  It really isn’t about the job; it’s about you and what you bring to the job.

Abilities are like muscles.  They are strengthened through exercise.  I’ve always heard, “use it or lose it.”  If you don’t use what you have, your abilities will waste away.

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”  This quotation from Theodore Roosevelt encourages us to be our very best – at all times.

Use what you have where you are so you can live . . . your life to the fullest.
