Aristotle said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”
What is a habit? According to Wikipedia, a habit is a routine of behavior that is repeated regularly and tends to occur subconsciously.
What are some habits most people have? Brushing your teeth, eating, exercising . . . Do you have to write yourself a note and stick it on your mirror to remind you to brush your teeth? NO! Why not? Because it’s a habit – a part of the routine of getting up in the morning and preparing for bed at night.
How do we end up with habits? Why do we have them? We were taught some habits by our parents. Brushing your teeth is a habit you have because you were taught to do it. Why do you continue to do it? What is the benefit of it? Having teeth! What would happen if you didn’t continue to do it? You would eventually lose that bright smile and sink a lot of money into dental work. Having good habits brings positive results.
This is a very simple example of an important principle. Creating and maintaining good habits will cause you to live . . . your life to the fullest.
