Would you like to know how to help create the reality you want to live?
We would all agree that positive thinking is better than negative. However, you might be surprised to know that as late as 1998 there was a 17-to-1 negative-to-positive ratio of research in psychology. For every study about thriving and happiness, there were 17 on depression and disorder. We know how to be unwell and miserable, but not how to be happy and thrive.
According to Shawn Achor in his book The Happiness Advantage, “Fifty years ago, the mean onset age of depression was 29.5 years old. In 2010 it was almost exactly half that: 14.5 years old.” These statistics are very sad.
The author states that, “We become more successful when we are happier and more positive.” He gives examples: Doctors who are put in a positive mood before making a diagnosis show almost three times more intelligence and creativity than doctors in a neutral state, and they make accurate diagnoses 19 percent faster. Salespeople who are positive outsell their pessimistic counterparts by 56 percent. Students primed to feel happy before taking math achievement tests far outperform their peers. These statistics are based on actual research.
Our brains are literally hardwired to perform at their best when they are positive. So why not take the initiative to think positively?!
What we spend our time and thoughts focusing on really can become our reality. By all means, think about what you think about so you can live . . . your life to the fullest.
