“People do not lack strength; they lack will.” Victor Hugo

A letter from Chi Chi Rodriguez, Professional Golfer, is included in Andy Andrews’ book, Storms of Perfection, Volume II. He tells of growing up in a very poor family with six children. He almost died when he was six from rickets, due to malnutrition. He began working at age seven at a country club as a forecaddie and later a caddy. It was at a young age that he started dreaming of making it big in professional golf. His friends made fun of him when he talked about it, saying a Puerto Rican had never been a touring pro. But he knew he would. He learned to play golf with clubs he made from guava limbs and balls made from tin cans.

Quoting from his letter, “Even though I came from a very poor background and received little encouragement toward golf from family, friends, and peers, I am proof that a positive self-image paired with a positive attitude can work wonders.”
