Live each day as though it were your last. This was the discussion at a family reunion. Until the grandmother chimed in.
She shared that she had always lived from a slightly different position. She chose to treat everyone she met each day as though it were their last day on earth.
Why do our thoughts go immediately to ourselves? Why do we seem to naturally live for our own personal comfort and pleasure?
True fulfillment comes when we focus on making life better for other people. I learned a long time ago that when I found myself feeling down and unhappy, a little exploration revealed that I had become totally self-focused. Doing something nice for another person is what turned those feelings around.
One of Zig Ziglar’s most popular quotations is “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” What we all know as the golden rule says, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Take the focus off you and put it on others. That is when you will be able to live . . . your life to the fullest.
