Life happens for you, not to you.
A close friend of mine recently had an experience that was devastating to her. She was already dealing with difficulties, so this was like the last straw. I tried to be supportive and there for her. I was visiting with her a week or so later and realized a significant change in her mood. She was laughing and had a much more positive demeanor. I sensed relief. She would not have chosen what happened, but it turned out to be a very good thing.
Interestingly, another close friend was also dealing with a tough situation. We were having lunch recently and I noticed, and shared with her, that she seemed more lively than she had been for many months.
I was thinking about these two friends. Both recently experienced something they would not have chosen for themselves which caused them great pain. But now, both were feeling better overall. They have relief and freedom. This quotation came to mind. Life happens for you, not to you.
Then I remembered something that happened to me a few months ago. Although it was difficult at the time, I have since realized it was best for me. I might never have made the decision on my own, but when it was made for me the result was positive.
Instead of getting down and out when the unexpected happens, why not ask yourself, “What does this make possible?”
Choose to see the silver lining and live . . . your life to the fullest.
