I cut this plant back a few weeks ago. It had grown big over several years and had some pretty parts, but also had lost a lot of its beauty to death in some areas. That resulted in a plant that was not very attractive overall. This occurred mostly because I had not watered it in a timely fashion and given it the proper attention it needed.
I had just about given up on it coming back to life because it took longer than I expected. Thankfully, I didn’t discard it. A few days ago I noticed small buds of life sprouting from these dead-looking stems.
I realized how similar that is to the situation we are in. We have had a lot of things cut from our lives. I don’t know about you, but I have had some low moments in the past few weeks. I am very thankful that I am not personally experiencing the problems so many people are, but the knowledge of what others are going through, missing my friends and gathering together to worship our Lord, spending so much time at home. It gets tough at times.
I have, however, recognized a brightening in my spirit this past week. I have spent some time just riding around in my car and looking at houses and beautiful lawns. There are even lakes and horses near me. I have done some things to encourage others. Spent some extra time in the yard and on the back porch on pretty Spring days.
Alabama is beginning a new phase. Albeit extremely small steps, the world as we know it is coming back to life. Hey, I can go shopping again soon! Those who know me well, know how much that energizes me!
Just as cutting back a plant allows new growth, so does purging things from our life bring even better things. For instance, we will have a greater appreciation for time with friends and freely doing what we enjoy.
Be encouraged. Recognize and appreciate the new life you are beginning to see. Then you will be able to live . . . your life to the fullest.
