I am enjoying a devotion book by Lewis Timberlake, First Thing Every Morning. Today I read the segment called Rules for Life. This segment includes a quotation by Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you.” We may become disgruntled and displeased with who we are or circumstances of life in which we find ourselves. The truth is that we are the only person we have any control over. Actions of other people may displease us, but if we allow their actions to affect what we do, that is completely our choice. We can make it about the other person if we choose, but in reality what we do is completely up to us.
Lewis Timberlake lists his favorite “seeds of thought” in this section of his book. I would like to share a few of those with you here:
“You can ‘keep on keeping on’ long after you think you can’t.”
“Our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are ultimately responsible for what we become.”
“Even when I have pains, I don’t have to be one.”
“I still have a lot to learn.”
