That task that you know needs to be done. The one you have put off for week after week. The feeling of dread continues to build. You just know it will be miserable to do so you allow it to continue to hang over your head. That’s better than doing it, right?
NO! It is the hard job not done that often exhausts us more than the actual task itself. William James said, “Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task.”
There is actually a name for this feeling: Anticipatory Fatigue. The overwhelm we feel because of all that needs to be done creates fatigue that is just as real as if we had done the work.
So we have a choice. Live with weeks of dread and anticipatory fatigue, or, just do the work and enjoy the feeling of satisfaction from completing a task.
Just do it – so you can live . . . your life to the fullest.
