If you want to know how to capture the things you are likely to forget, just ask a busy person. They have learned the best way out of necessity.
The busier we become, the more we recognize the need for assistance. Especially when the busyness is varied. I learned this lesson when I retired from my full-time job.
After retirement, I worked a part-time job, had my own business, and began adding additional activities such as volunteering, working out in a gym and scheduling regular lunches with friends. When I was working full-time, I knew where I would be most weekdays between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. I jotted any outside appointments on my work schedule. This tactic was quite successful for many years.
However, when leaving full-time employment, I learned right away that keeping a schedule would be necessary to keep my life in order. I was still busy, but my activities were in several different locations. My cell phone calendar is what works best for me to keep up with appointments and ensure that I am in the right place at the right time.
Another necessity for me is a to-do list. It is easy to overlook certain non-recurring tasks. I found that writing them down so I can refer to the list and check off as I do things works great for me. I love that feeling of marking things off the list. Completing a task is very energizing and motivational!
The bottom line is: write it down. An old Chinese proverb states, “The strongest memory is weaker than the palest ink.”
Find your best way to write down what is important to you. That is when you can live . . . your life to the fullest.
