I am currently reading a book by Mac Anderson, The Secret to Living is Giving. This book is a compilation of stories about people giving in different ways, such as volunteering and donating. He quotes Barbara Bush, “Some people give time, some money, some their skills and connections, some literally give their life’s blood. But everyone has something to give.”
There are many reasons for giving. We may give because we see someone in need, or because we are asked to. Maybe feeling obligation is the reason. Perhaps we give to feel important or to be seen or because everyone else is giving. Sometimes we may give because it makes us feel good, or would make us feel bad if we didn’t.
The Bible says that God loves a cheerful giver. It is when we give because we want to and in order to serve others that we are most blessed. Have you noticed that when you give, you seem to end up feeling that you received more than you gave? Mac Anderson states that “you can never help another person without helping yourself.”
During this beautiful season of Christmas, let’s remember that it is all about giving. God gave us His Son, Jesus. Now let’s take that gift and share with others.
What are some ways you enjoying giving to other people?
